The village of Porto Maurizio

Likely of Roman origin, Porto Maurizio was an autonomous municipality in the Middle Ages, though closely allied and dependent on the nearby and powerful Republic of Genoa. It was known throughout the Mediterranean for olive oil production and trade. After the Napoleonic period, it was annexed to Piedmont and later became part of the Kingdom of Italy.

In 1923, the village of Porto Maurizio merged with Oneglia and other smaller centers to form the new municipality of Imperia

The village of Oneglia

The village of Oneglia, whose name may recall an ancient pre-Augustan settlement (pagus Unelia), has its origins on the hill of Castelvecchio, one of the probable fortified settlements (sex oppida) of the Ligurian Ingauni, which overlooks the Impero stream where the church of Santa Maria Maggiore stands and the remains of a castle tower can still be seen.

The Port of Oneglia, with its characteristic Calata Cuneo, is a lively and charming place that hosts restaurants, cafes, and ice cream shops under its renowned arcades.
